Blood clots (Venous thromboembolism). Women who use birth control pills are at a slightly increased risk of having a blood clot in the legs or lungs. Studies consistently show that the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is two to six times higher in oral contraceptive users than in nonusers. The risk of blood clots is highest in women with clotting disorders or who have previously had a deep venous thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. Other risk factors include obesity, older age, having several family members who’ve had blood clots before old age, air travel, and having to lie or sit for a prolonged period, as you might after major surgery.

Headaches. Headaches may start in women who have not previously had headaches, or can get worse in those who do.

Depression. Depression (sometimes severe) and other mood changes may occur.

Nausea and vomiting. This side effect usually goes away after the first few months of use or can be prevented by taking the pill with a meal.

Breast tenderness. Your breasts may become tender or may get larger. Breast tenderness is relatively common during the first month of BCPs and uncommon thereafter.

Breakthrough bleeding or spotting. Spotting or bleeding between menstrual periods is very common in the first cycle of pills or if pills are missed or taken late.

Decreased enjoyment of sex. Some women experience a decreased interest in sex or a decreased ability to have orgasms.

Weight gain. Some women report slight weight gain. Weight gain is often caused by fluid retention or estrogen-induced fat deposits in the thighs, hips, and breasts. Weight gain may also be related to a reduction in physical activity or increased intake of food. In some women the androgenic effects from the progestins in their OCs can increase their appetite.

Chloasma. Darkening of the skin on the upper lip, under the eyes, or on the forehead (chloasma). This may slowly fade after you stop taking the pills, but in most cases, it is permanent.

Other medications. Birth control pills may not be as effective if you are taking certain medications. Many medications, including antibiotics, antifungals, anticonvulsants, herbal drugs like St. John’s Wort, can change the amount of the pill hormones absorbed by the stomach and the metabolism of these hormones.

Not suitable for everyone. Some women should not take pills if they have specific health conditions, including some types of diabetes, liver disease, cardiovascular disease. Women with risk factors for heart disease, such as those with high blood pressure or who are obese, are also at higher risk when on the Pill.

Must be taken every day. You must remember to take the pills at the same time every day. Pills must be taken every day, even if a woman does not have intercourse that day. Must use a secondary form of birth control for the initial seven days of use.

Diarrhea or vomiting. Anything that makes the pill go through your system too fast can make the pill not work as well because it was not absorbed or, worse, if it is lost in the vomit.

Teres major arises from the back of the lower angle of the shoulder blade bone and attaches to the inner lip of the groove on the arm bone along which the tendon of the biceps muscle passes through. This groove is called the bicipital groove and on the outer aspect of this groove is attachment of the pectoralis major muscle. The latissimus dorsi attaches to the floor of the groove.

This muscle is supplied by the subscapular nerve which carries the fibers of the C5 and C6 nerve roots. The function of teres major is exactly similar to that of latissimus dorsi. It brings the arm close to the chest, pulls it backwards and also rolls it inward as in scratching your back or placing your hand into your hip pocket.

Pain in this muscle is felt along the outer edge of the shoulder blade bone and this area is often tender even in those without pain. This muscle is treated together with latissimus dorsi.

They have a built in protective instinct that cannot be stopped. They need great leadership from their humans and not a dog for the first time ownership. Human leadership is a must for this dog. This dog, if not getting good leadership, will get to think his own way, and will choose to answer a command or not as the case may be. While saying this he is sensitive to being told off and loves to have affection heaped on. The Anatolian Shepherd dog is wonderful with children; they seem to know that a child is safe. In Turkey these dogs live in villages and in the day when they are not working play and sleep around the village seeking affection from the children, they can be very protective of their young wards. While being big this is a gentle dog around the family. The only thing to note is that due to the size of the dog, they may knock the young child over. The Anatolian Shepherd get on well with other animals if introduced. They can be dominant to other dogs so it is best to socialize them while they are very young. Due to their nature, this dog will patrol his territory at night, keeping close watch of their flock or family. If they see or feel that their flock is in danger the fist thing they do is stand in front of the flock to guard them and bark a loud deep bark. If the foreseen danger is not scared away this dog then attacks, this is the last thing the dog chooses to do. This breed needs a lot of socializing while young to allow them to understand what you want and to help with their natural guarding instincts.

Health issues: The Anatolian Shepherd breed has a slower immune system than many other breeds, talk to the veterinarian about extra injections it may need. They are sensitive to anaesthesia. Hip dysplasia can occur in this breed. They are prone to hypothyroidism or eyelid entropion.

Grooming: You do not need to do much in the way of grooming with the Anatolian Shepherd, but you will need to do vigorous grooming, twice a year when they are shedding. Shedding is very heavy.

Living conditions: The Anatolian Shepherd is not an apartment dog. They need a large garden that is well fenced as they are very suspicious of any strangers.
